The First Convoy
|
 |
As the
start year of 2000 coincided with the 100th year of the birth of Her
Royal Highness, the late Princess Mother, it was decided to nominate
The Foundation for The Welfare of The
Crippled, a charity under the
patronage of Her Highness, as our beneficiary.

Our first Convoy
took place on Sunday 19th November from The Foundation for The
Welfare of The Crippled in Pakkred to Safari World in Minburi.
It was
an early start in the morning for our convoy drivers,
as the line up of trucks had to be organised at 6 am to
avoid any disruptions to the flow of traffic near The
Foundation.
Our
thanks as always, goes to our drivers for giving their time free to
help the cause.
You
too, can help, by making a donation on line.

Fortune Hotel Staff - service with a smile
|
The refreshments kindly
supplied by The Fortune Hotel were therefore most welcome. Thanks to
them for being there so early to feed our drivers, helpers and
kids before setting off on their fun journey. |

All of the kids,
drivers and helpers were supplied with special "Convoy for
Kids" T shirts kindly sponsored by Siam Shore-side Services,
part of The Maersk Group of companies.
|
|
A special guest
appearance was made by members of The Thai Paralympic team who
bagged a bundle of medals at the Sydney Paralympic event. Some of
the team are ex pupils of the school and they keep in touch, very
often helping out at the school.

Before the
Convoy started off there was a short ceremony, and a cheque for
600,000 baht was presented to Khun Araya Arunanondchai, President of
The Foundation, by Mr. Max Lindsay, Chairman of The Australian
Thai Chamber of Commerce.
The final total reached was 829,500 Baht, and although short of our
original target figure of 1 million Baht which we hoped to
reach before the end of the year, we were happy with the results
considering the short run up of 6 weeks to organise and publicise
the event.

|
Thanpuying Manatnit
Vanikul (Office of Her Majesty's Private Secretary), kindly cut
the ribbon and declared the start of the first Convoy for Kids.
|

|
|

|
Our special thanks go to Fametech Limited who kindly supplied the buses
fitted with special wheelchair lifts.
The children boarded their buses and the trucks set off on
schedule, with the kids leading the way.
A total of 31 trucks took part in the convoy and over 100 companies
and hundreds of individuals contributed to The Convoy.

The kids in party mood set off for Safari World
|
|
Thanks to help in
traffic control from The Police Department, plus their 2 car escort, The
Convoy's run to Safari World was smooth and there was no disruption
to traffic flows.
On arrival at Safari World, there was plenty of space to park up our
trucks. We then joined up with the kids and accompanied them to
Marine Park.

First port of call
was The Sea-lion Show, with an amazing performance by the cheeky,
but clever sea-lions.
The show was a
great start to a great day!

|
|

|
 |
The Moscow Circus
Show was the next event on the card with fun and games from the
clowns and some fascinating performances from the artistes
and animals.
The show involved a lot of audience participation.

 |
|

|

After The Circus, lunch was most welcome and was provided with the
compliments of Safari World who also laid on some entertainment during
it.
|

|
|
Our next treat was
the spectacular Dolphin Show which never fails to please. You can
see by the look on the kids faces, that they really loved it. |

A really spectacular show from the Dolphins
|

Not difficult to see how much the show was enjoyed

To finish off the day, the kids had a drive through Safari World
where they saw a variety of animals in a natural habitat setting.
After that, time for home, supper and bed. It was a great day
for all

|
Our sincere thanks go to Khun Apar Techaratanachai and
Khun Pin Kewpaisal of Safari World who very kindly gave free
admission and lunch to the kids and staff from the school, and a
special reduced price for admission and lunch for our drivers and
other participants. A very big thanks also to The Safari
World staff who did a great job organising things for us to giving
us an enjoyable, a trouble free day and ensuring that space was
available for the kids to have a prime position for all of the
shows.
