Announcing
The
Volvo Truck and Bus Thailand
Convoy for Kids Charity Golf Day 2009
The
Volvo Truck and Bus Thailand sponsored
convoy for kids charity golf day
took place on Friday May 22nd at
Laem Chabang International
Country Club.
By popular
demand, we switched the start time
to a more leisurely time of 1200H with
a shot gun start.
The weather in the early part of
the week had not been too good
with a considerable amount of
rain.
Luckily, we
were blessed with great weather on the
day and we had a great course, good golf
and great company.
This
year proved difficult to find
sponsors and some of our regular
sponsors were unable to support us
this year because of the economic
downturn.
We fortunately found new
sponsorship to help make up for
that loss.
We were also a bit down on the
numbers this year due again to
the economic downturn and
because some of our regular
participants decided the venue
was too far from Bangkok for
them.
|
Everyone enjoyed playing this championship
course designed by Jack Nicklaus, and
for quite a few it was their first time
to play it.
After playing
there, we appreciated why it is
recognised as being truly one of
Thailand's finest and picturesque
courses.
There were some
very good scores returned, and
this was perhaps not too surprising as
there were quite a few low handicap and
scratch players in the field.

We would like to say a big thank you to
the management and staff of Laem Chabang
International Country Club who were
extremely helpful and helped make the
day a success.
Thanks also
to our sponsors and particularly Volvo
who have been our Platinum sponsor since
the first year of our golf day.
Many thanks
also to the Austcham staff who gave up
their free time to help with the
registration and collecting green fees
and sponsorship fees.
Last, but
not least a big thank you to the golfers
who turned out to give their time and
their money to a cause which helps kids
who have not had a great start in life.
Thanks a million to all of you.
As was said
at the club house after the event, we
would very much like to keep in touch
with all of the golfers who have
supported us .
We have contact
details for most of you, but if by any
chance you change company, email address
or mobile phone number.
please send up dated details by email to

The 2008 Convoy Day
Last
year's Convoy for Kids was switched from
Sunday, 30 November 2008 and was held on
Sunday 25th January 2009.
The day went well and gave the
children two new experiences, namely
The Siam Ocean World in the Paragon Center in
central Bangkok and The Royal Thai Airforce
Museum in Don Muang.
As well as children from The
Foundation, we took kids from the Sister
Joan's Foundation in Klongtoey and the children
from the Sor Soe Group
in Bang Sue slum area. - Slum Bangsue. |

A cheque for 800,000 Baht is presented by
Australian Ambassador Paul Grigson to Khun
Araya, president of The Foundation.

Two kids enjoy sitting
in one of the helicopters at the museum. |

Web master required
Due a heavy work schedule the current
webmaster is seeking someone to take his place to keep this site
up to date and to breathe some new ideas into the design of the
site.
The task can be shared by two or more individuals to lighten the
burden. It would be ideal for a couple of students with some web
design experience to take on the challenge.
The current web master
promises to help when required.
